Kitanomine Gondola open for business

Today the Kitanomine Gondola opens for the season.

We have had a lot of snow over the last week. The mountain was closed yesterday for the most part with high winds and storm conditions closing the lifts.

This also means that a number of families flying up for the festive season were unable to arrive on schedule. International guests were held up in Tokyo for the night, however domestic guests had their trips cancelled.

The bad weather is always too fold, as it brings fantastic snow, but it also means airline schedules and airports are put in chaos.

Those last year in early February will remember the drama of the Sapporo airport closing for 36 hours with bad weather. It was however fantastic snow conditions.
