July 23rd, 2007

The wheat around us was all harvested yesterday. For what looks like a large crop, it took only a couple of hours before it was all gone. Scenes like this totally remind all our staff and our guests that we are truly in the North Country. The air is pure, the insects ripe, and rolling coutryside with fields of crops provide the lifeblood for the local farming and tourism industries.

Another beautiful day in Furano. The harvesters were out for only a few hours and the entire fields were done.

This is the field right next to the road. The before and after shots show how dense the wheat is.

The harvesters worked in tandem, lapping the perimeter. I think it was easy for them just to turn 90 degrees at each corner. In front of the wheat field is the Pumpkin Patch; yes we have pumpkins growing right next door.
